Gift Activation

If there's a rule to limit it, I sure as hell don't see it.

Should there be anything stopping you from activating all your gifts immediately at once in the same action?

(I mean, unless the specific gift write up limits it)

Provided it doesn't require a physical action in the description like Razor Claws.

If outside of combat/rounds I don't see why we can't activate as many as we want. In combat I believe gifts are an action to activate, except for the ones that are always on.

This is for purposes of Combat/Rounds.

If you happen to know what page number says they're an action to activate, please let me know! ^.^; I'm writing up a combat guide now to make things easier and would love to reference it.

Page 232:
Over the course of the game, your character will do many things. Most of the time, those things are fairly simple, and thus don’t require a roll, like walking across the street, or reading the news on a smartphone. Actions, by contrast, are anything that might produce an interesting outcome to the direction the story takes. Using a Gift, “accidentally” stabbing a challenger in the gut with your klaive, hiding while watching two of your packmates breaking the Litany, chasing a rival pack across the rooftops — these are actions, and their success or failure will alter the outcome of the story. An action typically takes one turn to complete.

Hmmmmm but are they reflexive, automatic or fixed actions?

"When it comes to taking action, a player has three choices: reflexive actions (which take no time and require no roll (which, of course, the book contradicts only a few pages later)); automatic actions (which don’t require a roll but do count as an action); and fixed actions (actions which take time and may also require a roll)." (W20 p. 268)

I can only say what I would do as an ST (I have run a forum game in W20) gifts were standard actions as a rule, then I would make exceptions for balance purposes after looking over gifts. I am down for whatever staff decides.

As someone who has used a significant number of gifts so far during game play, I can say that I would prefer a 1 gift per action OR post limitation, simply because without it, combats will seem significantly less terrifying. Part of the excitement for me is trying to plan and prepare and possibly being caught off guard and needing to work with what you have.

I agree with Ava. Unless you're burning rage and activating gifts during additional combat actions (lulz Chaos Mechanics) then I like the tension of needing to prioritize.

Getting gacked? Do you put up Silver Claws or Lunas Armor?

I agree. There may be rare exceptions and storyteller's can let us know if that's the case but in general the rule should be that gifts take an action.

The W20 section talking about Reflexive and Automatic actions also lists out specifically which things are reflexive and gifs don't appear on that list which implies that gifts are handled like standard actions.

Sorry didn't see the poll at the top the way I've seen it run before is that if it requires a roll it's an action if it's just a spend its reflexive. Not sure if that's house or hidden in one of the many books of the many versions of apoc

I like Xavier's suggestion.

I also like Xavier’s option.

I like Xavier option. Also it would be limited as far as if it requires gnosis or rage spends as those are limited.

Alrighty. Final ruling:

Gifts which require neither a spend nor a roll will not take an action.
Gifts that required either a spend, roll, or both will take an action.
